Yen is a character appearing in The Continental: From the World of John Wick. She is Frankie Scott's wife.
Biography[]
Yen was born in Vietnam. Not much known about her past, but it was hinted that she was raised as a breeding stock and as an assassin by her master, Khang[1]. Due to her failure in producing an heir, Khang sent her to bomb the Americans in Saigon during the Vietnam War. When she reached to the destination, Yen pressed the button but the bomb never went off. After that, Frankie Scott, who was a soldier back then, saw her at the bar and fell in love with her at first sight. Some time later, they got married. She also met Miles who accompanied with Frankie as a fellow soldier and he helped the wedded couple escape to America.
Yen is Frankie’s wife who is prepared to endure any hardship to be with him, including living underground and off the grid after he steals something that puts them both in grave danger. Deeply suspicious of everyone, Yen is shocked to learn that Frankie has a long-lost brother, Winston. A fierce fighter who will stop at nothing to protect those she loves, Yen represents second chances and found family. She is also the deadliest fighter of the entire group.
Personality[]
Before meeting Frankie, Yen saw herself as a tool for her master who seemed to treat her as a breeding stock. She was filled with suicidal thoughts likely from the war and her upbringing.
After marrying Frankie, Yen became very protective of her husband & determined for the future they planned together after escaping to America. She was suspicious of everyone, including Winston who was Frankie's brother, and won't hesitate to take them out.
Skills and Abilities[]
- Expert Martial Artist: Yen is highly trained and dangerous in hand-to-hand combat. She is considered to be the best fighter of Winston's group.
- Durability and Pain Tolerance: Despite her size, Yen has displayed strong durability and pain tolerance in the series. She was able to withstand the attacks of one of Cormac's goons and Gretel's brutal assaults.
- Stealth: Yen is very skilled in sneaking into small spaces and take out her enemies unnoticed.
- Strategist: Yen also specialized in setting up traps. She almost succeeded in killing Winston before Frankie stopped her and took out 3 of Cormac's men when they came looking for her.
Weaknesses[]
- Language Barrier: Yen has little knowledge in English due to her upbringing in Vietnam.
- Emotional stability: Yen is prone to anger. After her husband's death, she became vengeful & suicidal as she was determined to go after his killers. Yen refused to cooperate with Winston and his group when she learned they cremated Frankie's body without her consents. Once she had the twins trapped, she planned to blow them up along with her, hoping she could rejoin her husband, until Miles convinced her to live on for Frankie's sake.

- Her master in episode 2's flashback is portrayed by the American Vietnamese actor Johnny Tri Nguyen, the actress's real life boyfriend & trainer. He kept his role a secret from the audience until the 2nd episode is aired. During the filming, he helped her in her English and martial art skills.[1]
- This is Nhung Kate's first American role.
