Summit Entertainment is an American film production and distribution company which is a part of Lionsgate Films, a subsidiary of Lionsgate Entertainment. They are based in Santa Monica, California. Summit Entertainment is the main producer of the John Wick films.

History[]

Summit Entertainment was founded in 1991 by film producers Bernd Eichinger, Arnon Milchan, and Andrew G. Vajna. The company was founded in order to handle film sales in foreign countries. It was expanded and officially launched in 1993 by Patrick Wachsberger, Bob Hayward, and David Garrett under the name Summit Entertainment LP. It was known as a distribution and sales organization back then. They were producing and co-managing films by 1995. In 2008, a merger between Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate were rumoured. It was announced that Lionsgate acquired Summit Entertainment on February 1, 2009. Lionsgate continues to operate Summit Entertainment as a label.

John Wick was a co-production with Warner Bros. and Thunder Road Pictures. Summit Entertainment was managing distribution of the film in the US. John Wick: Chapter 2 was a co-production with Thunder Road Pictures and 87Eleven productions. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was also a co-production with Thunder Road Pictures and 87Eleven Productions

Some of their most notable film credits outside of John Wick include American Pie, The Twilight Saga, Gone, Ender's Game, 12 Years a Slave, The Divergent Series, Now You See Me Series, Draft Day, Uncle Drew, Hacksaw Ridge and more.
