The Ruska Roma, also known as Russian Gypsies, are the largest subgroup of the Romani people in Russia and Belarus. A powerful criminal organization in Germany, it is one of the twelve organizations that holds a seat at the High Table. However, Vincent Bisset de Gramont claimed they only held a "second-rate seat."

History[]

John Wick's Origins[]

John Wick was an orphan of the tribe who was taken in and trained by the Director, before eventually leaving and becoming a legendary assassin for the Tarasov Mob into adulthood.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum[]

After being declared excommunicado with a large bounty on his head for killing Santino D'Antonio on Continental grounds, John sought the help of the Ruska Roma at the Tarkovsky Theater to escape from New York, presenting a large crucifix to the Director as proof of his right to demand their help. The Director reluctantly agreed to help John but at the price of tearing up his "ticket" by burning the crest on his back with a branding iron to signify John's exile from the tribe. Subsequently, The Adjudicator punished the Ruska Roma for assisting John by having Zero stab the Director through both of her hands.

John Wick: Chapter 4[]

Following John's assassination of the Elder, Vincent Bisset de Gramont retaliated by having Killa Harkan kill Pyotr, a Ruska Roma leader in Berlin, and Katia's father, and then sent them the bill for the hit. To win his freedom from the High Table, Winston Scott suggested that John challenge Vincent to a duel, but it would have to be on behalf of a crime family on the High Table. As John's ticket was torn, he traveled to Berlin in search of Pyotr to have it mended, only to have Katia and the Ruska Roman nearly hang him for his crimes. After John reveals his intention to duel Vincent, Katia makes a deal with him to let John back into the Ruska Roma in exchange for him killing Killa and avenging Pyotr's murder.

After John killed Killa and brought her one of Killa's gold teeth as proof, Katia welcomed him back into the Ruska Roma and mended his ticket by giving John a brand of their crest on his arm, getting a matching one on her arm at the same time. Winston then delivered an official challenge from the Ruska Roma to Vincent, detailing John's return to the organization and his demands for the duel, which Vincent reluctantly accepted.

Trivia[]

  • In John Wick: Chapter 4, Winston is shown to have a tattoo with the Ruska Roma crest on it, suggesting that he's either a member of the organization or affiliated with it.
