The library is located in 476 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York City, 10018. This New York institution is one of John Wick's many hiding places for tools of the trade and mementos from his life before and after retirement, which he keeps in a book of Russian folk tales.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum[]
In a rainy night in New York City, the excommunicated John Wick was seen taking a taxicab with his dog. Due to the heavy traffic ahead, John then pays the driver with a gold coin for him to take his dog to the N.Y.C. Continental and then runs by himself. Following of his Excommunicado affecting in 20 minutes, He then went to the New York Public Library and approached the librarian. He then asks for a book: "Russian Folk Tale by Aleksandr Afanasyev, 1864." He was then directed to the location of the book and found located in a Russian book section. When he opens the book and flips to a illustration, behind was a photo of him and his wife, five pieces of gold coins, a Russian orthodox rosary and a High Table marker medallion. He then looks at their photo again, kisses it and then returns the photo back behind the illustration. Meanwhile, Ernest the tall assassin, approaches to John quoting Dante Alighieri from the book of the Divine Comedy: Inferno.
Ernest knowing that the time of John's Excommunicado is not yet happening, still engages and attacks him with a knife for $14 million leading both assassins having a fight inside the library. In the fight, Ernest then grabs his head, telling him to keep quiet then smashes John in the stack of books. After Ernest kicks him, John uses a book to fight back. He then puts the book in Ernest's mouth and pushes it, causing his jaw to be fractured. Then he places on Ernest's neck on the book and breaks, leading his neck snapped. After the brawl, he then returns the Russian folk tale book by Afanasyev covered in blood which was used during the fight and then leaves the library.

- Ernest's quote from Dante is found on Divina Commedia' 'Inferno' Canto 26, l. 118.
- The fight between Ernest and John Wick may be a resemblance to the Bible story of David and Goliath.
