Clarence John Brown III was born in Urbana, Ohio, United States. He became known for playing in antagonistic roles. He had roles in Boys, The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, The Laramie Project, The Trials of Cate McCall, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Promising Young Woman, and many others. His voice was also used in animated series and movies, as the voice of Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants series as well as the movies Sponge Out of Water and Sponge on the Run, and the voice of Captain Augustus Black in Jackie Chan Adventures.
